PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Using public transport in Victoria is easy with trains, trams and buses connecting metropolitan Melbourne and an extensive rail and coach network connecting the city with regional areas and beyond.
Metropolitan Melbourne
One ticket, Metcard, allows flexible travel on trains, trams and buses. Ticket fares are based on the public transport zones and the amount of time you will be travelling. Just select the zone or zones you will be visiting and remember to validate your ticket each time you travel.
Metcards can be purchased from customer service centres at premium stations, retail outlets displaying the blue Metcard flag, the MetShop at the Melbourne Town Hall, online or by calling the Metcard Helpline on 1800 652 313. A limited selection can also be purchased on-board buses and from coin-only ticket machines on-board trams.
Public transport timetables, maps and brochures are available at the MetShop at the Melbourne Town Hall (corner Swanston and Little Collins streets), the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square, online or by calling Metlink on 131 638.
The Metlink website also has an online journey planner, which allows you to enter details of your origin and destination and provides you with a tailored journey plan including maps, travel information and estimated travel times.
